Saints Spinners Sink Hampton & Solihull

Saturday 2nd June 2018 : Match Scorecard

Nine wickets from Saints’ spinners Aaron Khatkar and Khizar Zaman saw the Saturday 1st XI to a 115 run victory over Hampton and Solihull at Clarence Road. Khizar had earlier hit three sixes in a late assault on the visitors bowling that took Saints to 252-6 as he finished 38 not out. Both openers made good starts with Stefan Van Dyk hitting 45 from 46 balls before picking out long leg, whilst skipper Jon Hipkiss crafted a patient 58, and Sean Dunne’s 45 held the middle order together.

The visitors appeared reluctant to chase the Saints’ total, with their openers progressing slowly until Mitch Minhas got through with the last ball of his eight over spell. Keeper Matt James joined opener Gupta and passed the hundred mark. It wasn’t until after drinks and the introduction of spinners Khizar and Aaron that things really started to happen.

Khizar removed numbers 2-5, with the help of some interesting LBW adjudications, and then Aaron removed numbers 6-10 to claim his first ‘five-for’ of the season, as Hampton collapsed from 102-1 to 137 all out with just over three overs remaining.

This meant that the 1st XI claimed a maximum 24 points, the first available this season, and climb into fourth place in the Warwickshire Cricket League Premier Division table.
